If you are looking for the best pizza in Amsterdam, La Perla’s got it! This place is downright delicious. You’ll find it on a street locals refer to as “Little Italy” amongst a few trattorias, a couple cafés and a gelatería.
So what makes this the best pizza in Amsterdam? To start, La Perla directly imports authentic ingredients from Italy a few times each week including their buffalo mozzarella, their prosciutto and even their olive oil. This guarantees the ingredients are always fresh and taste like Italy.
The pizzeria sits on two facing street corners. On one side you will find a large wood burning brick oven and a few barstools lining the window. This is where the magic happens and where you can order a pizza to-go. Across the way is the cozy dining room with enough space for about 30 lucky pizza enthusiasts.
On any given evening you’ll find smiling faces and hurried waiters bustling from one side of the street to the other. Much like in Italy, the pizzas here are served uncut and piping hot.
Since La Perla is only a few blocks away, I come here far too often. You would think I would’ve tried all the pizzas by now, but I typically stick to two favorites. Number one, the Prosciutto San Daniele with tomato, buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula and Parmigiano Reggiano. Number two, the Calabrese di Spilinga a spicy pizza with tomato, buffalo mozzarella, oregano, and a hot salami paste called nduja. If you’ve never had nduja you should! It tastes sort of like a spreadable sopressata with chilis. They won’t do half and half, so go with a friend and split both pizzas down the middle. You won’t regret it.
Ps – reserve a table no matter what day of the week it is. This is the best pizza in Amsterdam after all!
