I love to try new cafes and coffee spots, but I tend to keep visiting my favorites too. I also know what it’s like to visit a city for a weekend and only want the best. And the local stuff too! That’s why I made this list.
Here are my recommendations on the best cafes in Jordaan, Amsterdam – my real go-to spots. Hope you find some new trip-favorites.
Best cafes in Jordaan, Amsterdam
BRUNO’s
First up, BRUNO’s. BRUNO’s is every Jordaaner’s favorite to-go coffee spot. On a Saturday before the Noordermarkt, stop by for yours. You’ll catch locals and some savvy tourists in line.
The owner is a coffee connoisseur with the best coffee machines, grinders and beans from different regions of the world. He often travels to Italy or Asia to indulge in his passion. If you’re in Jordaan and only drink one coffee, this should be it.
You’ll be asked if you want your coffee mild, medium or strong and with oat milk or regular. The price is fair and you’ll be buzzing for hours.
Kafenion
Kafenion is where the Greeks go! If you’ve ever had a Greek coffee or Greek frappe, you know that Greeks make good coffee. Kafenion not only has excellent and strong coffee, they have all sorts of different brewing methods for the real connoisseurs (not me). They also have tasty Greek pastries like Spanakopita and Bougatsa. Having lived in Greece way back when, each bite takes me back. For a hip vibe and strong coffee, this is your spot.
Le Petit Deli
Amsterdam’s Le Petit Deli has the best almond croissant I’ve had in Amsterdam and quite possibly ever. To avoid expanding my waistline, I avoid Le Petit Deli most days but it’s a sweet little spot for a quick snack, coffee, tea, matcha, breakfast or lunch. Apart from Ao in the Staatsliedenbuurt, they have one of the better matcha lattes in the city. Read more about their brunch here.
Toki
Toki is technically not in the Jordaan, but close enough. It’s a Japanese style coffee house with a clean aesthetic and “cool kid vibe”. Yes, this is where the cool kids hang out. But don’t worry, you’re a cool kid too. I love to go to Toki for matcha lattes but recently I discovered a special breakfast dish there.
It’s a slice of brioche served with scrambled eggs, a tomato chutney and parmesan cheese. Sounds simple, but so delightful. Definitely try to find a seat and enjoy the vibes, drinks and maybe a sweet or savory bite.
Winkel 43
Next up, Winkel 43. If you’ve read anything about Amsterdam, I’m sure you’ve already heard about Winkel 43. Winkel 43 has the most famous Dutch apple pie in the city. Is it worth the hype? In my book, yes. It really is delicious, just don’t go on Saturdays when the Noordermarkt is on.
Pro tip: In case you’re a night owl, Winkel 43 is open until 3 am. Typically they still have some pie to satisfy your late night sweet tooth without any crowds. I wouldn’t recommend any of the other food at Winkel 43. Stick to drinks and pie, and be naughty – add the whipped cream, or as the Dutch say, slagroom.
Saint-Jean
Oh, Saint-Jean. I considered leaving Saint-Jean off the list due to the mass Instagram and TikTok fame. But I have to say, the fully plant based pastries are pretty incredible. That’s right – 100% plant based. All of it. It’s hard to believe, and I sometimes still doubt this can be true. You would never know.
The line is always out the door. Especially when the Noordermarkt is on on Saturdays, I would avoid! They recently opened a second location just across the street to appease the masses. This is not one of my usual hangouts, but I’ve loved every pastry I’ve tried. And they make a mean Matcha too. If you’re vegan (or not) and like an Instagramable sweet, go.

The Pulitzer and Hotel Mercier. Both on the higher end when it comes to price. If you are looking for a more affordable option, try the nearby Conscious Hotel in Westerpark. You can easily bike and walk everywhere from here too.
