Dumplings Amsterdam

Dumplings shop in Amsterdam

Dumplings Amsterdam is my go-to Chinese street food spot in Amsterdam. And lucky me, I live super close by. So what’s the hype around Dumplings Amsterdam? And why is that line so long, so often?

Well long story short, it’s delicious Chinese street food. Plus, the location is just by Westerpark, making it the perfect spot on a warm (or not so warm) sunny day. Also featured in my Staatsliendenbuurt & Westerpark neighborhood guide. Check it out for more tips of what to eat and do in the area.

The shop is tiny and the line can be long. Note, there is no indoor seating or bathroom. There are a few tables outside on the street, but most people get their order to go and enjoy in the park or at home.

I’ve waited nearly an hour in line during peak summer days. Talk about hangry! The best time to go is when it’s raining mid week. But then of course, you can’t enjoy the park. I guess you can always bring a friend and catch up in line, umbrella in hand.

My favorite way to enjoy Dumplings Amsterdam is to get my order to go, take it home and devour everything with some extra Chili Chans – Amsterdam’s favorite crispy chili oil entrepreneur. Now available in STACH, Albert Heijn and more… trust me, it’s delicious!

About Dumplings Amsterdam

The owners and staff are super friendly and eager to help you out in Chinese, Dutch or English.

The menu is posted on the window and each item has a number associated with it to make ordering easier. But don’t get too attached to any one item. During peak hours, Dumplings runs out of the most popular items. Particularly the dumplings of course. They don’t tell you this upfront, only when you get to the front of the line. So be prepared with a backup order. Or ask someone at the front of the line before you wait an hour.

This is always a huge letdown. But don’t let that deter you. I’ve tried every item on the menu and everything is delicious. I would skip the loempia and samosas though. They are typical and taste like they come out of a frozen food aisle.

That said, what are my favorite dishes at Dumplings Amsterdam?

What to order at Dumplings Amsterdam

My go-to tends to be the Peking Duck or Vegetarian Chinese Crepe, the pork dumplings and the pork bao buns. Warning – the crepes are really big. This order I’d suggest for two to three people to share.

The crepes especially are very large and filling.
