Is One Day At Lake Bled Enough? My Honest 24 Hour Guide

I visited Lake Bled with friends immediately after hiking Triglav in early July. I’ll be honest: I worried one day wouldn’t be enough to see it all.

The takeaway: One day is actually the perfect amount of time. Since the “to-do” list isn’t overwhelming, it’s the ideal spot for a slow-travel reset after a high-energy adventure. Or, skip the hiking and go straight to the lake. You do you.

What to See and Do in Lake Bled

Where To Stay in Lake Bled: Hotel Park

I spent a lot of time comparing spots and eventually chose Hotel Park Lake Bled. The hotel is fairly priced, sits directly on the water, and has on-site parking.

After our start in Ljubljana and our hike in Triglav, we were looking for a bit of “VIP treatment”. Hotel Park delivered. The rooftop spa and pool are great, with an incredible view overlooking the lake. The robot is the real star of the hotel.

Yes, a robot runs around the halls serving the famous Lake Bled Cream Cake. Be sure to order room service to meet him.

The highlights:

  • Free water: There is a fountain in the lobby to refill your reusable bottles. Not common in Lake Bled.
  • The breakfast: It’s one of the best buffets I’ve had in years. Truly impressive selection.
  • Must-eats: Don’t miss the waffles or the eggs, both made to order. And duh, the Lake Bled Cream Cake.

Explore Lake Bled By Foot Or Pletna

The best way to see the lake is to simply walk around it. A paved path circles the entire lake, and you can finish the loop in about an hour and a half, maybe a little more.

Halfway through, stop at a lakeside cafe for Kremsnita (aka Lake Bled Cream Cake). Legs shot from hiking? Hop on a Pletna boat instead. These traditional wooden boats are specially designed for Lake Bled and take you to the Church of the Assumption, that famous spot in the middle of the lake.

  • Walking around the lake we stumbled upon a big red heart you can take your photo in and pose in front of the water
  • The most crystal clear blue water and bright blue sky at Lake Bled in Slovenia

Lunch At Old Cellar Bled

For lunch, we went to Old Cellar Bled. There was a ton of rain when we ended the hike, so a lot of restaurants closed due to the floods. Lucky for us, Old Cellar was one of my favorite meals in Slovenia.

The vibe is quaint and the service is incredibly friendly. Plus, Slovenia has awesome flavor combos and prices were reasonable for the ambience.

Ask the waiters for recommendations on local specialties and wine pairings. They really know their stuff.

Old Cellar in Lake Bled serves a delicious lunch or dinner, definitely stop by. Two dishes and a glass of wine.

Relax At The Rooftop Spa

After lunch, visit the spa. The hotel stay included pool access, but the spa cost extra.

There are views overlooking the lake from the relaxation area, saunas, and steam rooms. It’s the perfect way to rest before dinner. My favorite view of Lake Bled was definitely from there.

Dinner At Lake Bled Castle Restaurant

Onto a dinner to remember. My second favorite views were from the castle. For a “worth-it” splurge, book a table at the Lake Bled Castle Restaurant. From the castle, the views are wild.

Tip: Reserve a table at Lake Bled Castle and get free access to the castle (usually €17). Arrive an hour early to explore the grounds.

To eat, we tried both the 5-course (€67) and 7-course seasonal menus. Everything was bright, flavorful, and paired perfectly with Slovenian wine.

Second pro tip: Take a car or taxi up. The road is steep, and you’ve done enough hiking for one trip!

  • A view from the castle overlooking the lake
  • Posing in front of Lake Bled in the rain from the castle
  • Lake Bled Castle Tower

  • A starter from Lake Bled Castle Restaurant

Got More Time in Lake Bled?

  • For an adrenaline rush: Try the Zipline Dolinka nearby. Open everyday. This is in fact Europe’s longest zipline!
  • For quiet: Drive over to Lake Bohinj – more calm and less touristy than Lake Bled.
  • For nature: Walk the Vintgar Gorge. It’s a 1.6 km path along a river with wooden bridges and a massive waterfall. Supposedly really beautiful.

Short on time? If you aren’t able to spend a night or two at the lake, you can also take a day trip from Ljubljana to Lake Bled and the Castle.
