Update March 2023: location Ruysdaelkade 181 Amsterdam

At Sir Hummus, hummus is always the main course, not some wimpy side dish. Two Israeli brothers, Guy and Dori, opened their homestyle hummus hotspot just a few years back. The idea was to take real Middle Eastern flavors and deliver them to the heart of Amsterdam.

Guy and Dori’s secret recipe is simple, but it takes a lot of love and time to get it just right. Making hummus this good takes a full 24 hours. Can you believe it? That’s because everything is made from scratch and prepared by hand. They sort, soak, and cook the chickpeas the night before and just before the lunchtime rush, they combine all the ingredients together. No crap like oil, or additives like citric acid to hide behind, just the real stuff – the good stuff.

You can make your own Hummus Meal by choosing a size, small or large, a few toppings like magic egg, tahini or spicy eggplant and pairing it all with homemade pita – baked fresh daily by a local bakery. Though I loved the hummus, the pita party is what I go back for.

The whole wheat pita is the best, but if you’re feeling simplicity you could always choose white. It’s served piping hot on a wooden board. It’s so light and fluffy, it’s like clouds of pure pita heaven – a pita party in your mouth :-).

Ok, not in the mood for pita jokes, no problem. The classic plate drizzled with a generous helping of olive oil and their zesty lemon green hot sauce is all you need for a filling lunch. Please try this hot sauce.

If you’re on a Sunday stroll and craving something quick and fresh, stop by Sir Hummus for a surprisingly filling lunchtime treat.
