I love Amsterdam, but let’s be honest, this ain’t summer! Last year I was totally spoiled with Spanish sunshine and a couple weeks ago I was desperately craving some Vitamin sea. Rather than bitch about the rain, I booked an impromptu ticket to Ibiza.
After visiting the majority of Spain’s most popular destinations, I can honestly say Ibiza’s got it goin’ on. I wrote it off years ago as a place Brits go to party with sub par beaches and an average nightlife. Now I can report, I was totally misinformed. Topless hotties, turquoise water, white sand, outrageous DJs and incredible pool parties are more like it. I could’ve spent all day by the sea or swaying my hips by the pool, but one day I decided to venture to Ibiza’s Old Town. This one rivals any old town I’ve ever visited. It may even be more charming than Toledo.
Around 645 BC, Phoenician navigators settled in Ibiza and constructed a hilltop citadel. Over the centuries it was ruled by Carthaginians, Romans, Moorish and eventually Spanish conquistadors. Today this hilltop town is flourishing with culture, art, restaurants, shops and too many picture perfect moments.
