Breakfast in San Cristobal
El Faro
El Faro is a local favorite. In fact, we went here for breakfast one morning and saw Chok, our scuba master, enjoying a bite too. It was our last morning, so Mike wanted to have one last Ecuadorian breakfast. I was still feeling full from the night before so I opted for a smoothie. It was enormous, and came inside a lightbulb glass. Wild. Good to note! I was worried about drinking smoothies in Ecuador due to a bad experience I had with the water in Thailand. But rest assured, on San Cristobal the drinking water is safe.
Kachi Tanta
Kachi Tanta is a local bakery. We walked by Kachi Tanta time and time again on the way from our hotel, Cactus. Cactus was great, but the breakfast was so-so. At Kachi Tanta they have both sweet and savory Ecuadorian baked goods as well as quich, focaccia, bread and sandwiches. It’s a good spot to stop for breakfast on the go, lunch for the beach or the plane ride home.
Mercado Central, Las Delicias de Toñita
Just a stones throw away from our hotel was the Mercado Central. On the ground floor you’ll find all sorts of fresh produce for sale each day. Upstairs, there are a few restaurants. They seemed to be mostly open for lunch. One morning we popped in for breakfast at Las Delicias de Toñita. This is a family run stall, serving local dishes for fair prices.
We both had the breakfast. This included a bolón de queso with chicharron, chicken rice and eggs and a coffee. I also ordered a blackberry smoothie. The meal was home cooked and simple.

Midori Sushi Pub
We visited Midori in Puerto Ayora and absolutely loved it. The food and atmosphere in San Cristobal isn’t quite as great, but it’s still a really nice spot. The menu is slightly different, but the fish is still fresh as can be. It’s a multi story dining space with great views overlooking the port and plenty of early evening sunshine. We stopped in one afternoon for delicious cocktails, and the next evening for some sushi.
Muyu Galápagos
Of all the places we dined in the Galapagos, this was the most upscale. Muyu is part of the Golden Bay 4-star hotel. The location is perfect for sunset views. Definitely check what time the sun is setting and book a table outside just before. You won’t regret it. We got blessed with a purple sky!
They serve modern Ecuadorian food and drinks with plenty of local produce and fish. Surprisingly, the portions were generous too. The wait staff was friendly and we really had a great evening. I can highly recommend the Scorpion fish.

The Post Office
The Post Office is a beer and food spot that overlooks Playa de los Marinos. If you want to spend some time giggling at the sea lions, it’s the perfect stop. Just beware, sometimes it can be slightly smelly here. Luckily, they have a great beer and food selection. We just opted for drinks – a flight of Golden Prague beers. Golden Prague is a local brew made in Czech style, you’ll find it all over the islands.
The Pier Restaurant and Cevicheria
We stopped at The Pier on our walk from the town to Playa Mann and Point Carola for sunset. It’s a cozy spot with swings and a bar overlooking the sea. They have free popcorn as well as a full menu. We went for frozen cocktails – a piña colada and a strawberry daiquiri, hey, we’re on vacation right? Well unfortunately, they weren’t great. The piña colada at Midori was far superior. But it was a good pit stop on our adventure.
